Who can obtain a burn permit?

Only residents living in approved areas can obtain a permit. Permits are conditional and may be revoked at any time.

How can I obtain a burn permit?

Permits can be obtained by the online portal. If you are experiencing any issues, please call the station at (413) 436-5444.

What can I burn?

Burning is restricted to wood materials that have not been processed at a saw-mill. Please only burn wood materials and brush. The permit is not valid for land clearing.

Do I need a permit?

If you want to have an open-air fire of any kind including those in a container then yes, you need an approved permit. If you are having a barbecue a permit is not required.

How much do permits cost?

Burn permits are free of charge and residential permits are valid for the entire season (January 15 to May 1) on days fire weather is conducive of burning.
